For this project, I was asked to create a video for Ariel to promote their dishwasher pods, using an existing static design as the starting point. The artwork had a beam bursting out of the pod, so it felt like the natural way to animate it would be to animate the beam going from 0 to 100.
I started by having the pod drop into the scene, treating it as if it was falling into your washing machine. From there, I added a bit of shaking to the pod to build some tension, like something powerful was about to happen, before letting the beam burst out of it.
This one was quite a tricky animation because I only had a flattened Photoshop file to work from. That meant a lot of cutting things out by hand and hunting around for assets to rebuild parts of the design. The beam was especially difficult, as it was made up of bubbles and shine lines with transparency baked into them, which didn’t extract very cleanly. I had to piece it together as best I could and focus on selling the effect through motion rather than perfect assets.
In the end, it turned a static graphic into a fun, energetic little piece, and it was a good reminder of how much movement alone can bring something to life, even when the source files aren’t ideal. I was also asked to create a similar video for Fairy afterwards, which I was able to do by adjusting some of the colours on the original.
