For this project, I wanted to challenge myself to recreate a piece I’d seen on Instagram by Emi Flores. The video showed several different types of shapes animating in different ways, and I was interested to see if my Cinema 4D skills would allow me to create something similar.
I decided to take the video section by section and break it up into its components. There were five clear scenes I wanted to do: the opening zoom, the cube formation, the cube ripple, the cube stretch and finally the dominoes falling. I modelled the shapes first, most of which were very simple shapes – showing you don’t have to make anything complex to make an interesting composition.

Some of these sections had a few different elements to them, so I duplicated them and repositioned the cameras and lighting as apporpriate. Creating these sections let me develop lots of C4D skills:
- using the cloners in scene one,
- making interesting animation paths in scene two
- using fields for the ripple in scene three
- working with splines in scene four, and
- using the physics engine to make the dominoes fall in scene five.
I can’t take any credit for the design or animation itself as this was all created by Emi originally, but I was pleased that I had learned Cinema 4D to a point where I could recreate what I thought was a very well-made animation myself.
