This video was modelled and animated in Cinema 4D using storyboards provided by the School of Motion’s Cinema 4D Basecamp course. The course teaches Cinema 4D from the ground up, including the fundamentals of 3D modelling, lighting, animation and key tools like cloners, effectors and fields, which are essential for motion work in three dimensions.
I approached this project section by section, building the shapes and animations needed for each part of the storyboard. Most of the elements were simple forms, demonstrating that you don’t need complex models to create interesting compositions. Throughout the process I applied the basics of modelling and lighting learned in the course, experimented with animation principles in 3D space, and used Cinema 4D’s MoGraph tools to bring motion into each scene.
One section I particularly enjoyed was creating the transition where the map emerges from the compass. This involved careful animation and timing to make the movement feel smooth and intentional. Overall, this project helped reinforce the core Cinema 4D skills taught in Basecamp and gave me confidence in using the software to create structured 3D animation work.
