Oral-B Holiday Packaging

This project involved designing a holiday gift set for Oral-B’s electric toothbrush range, with a clear brief to lean into a festive, premium Christmas feel. The references they shared focused heavily on glowing lights, illuminated trees, and dark, atmospheric scenes, so it was clear early on that this would be a high-contrast, dark-and-gold direction.

I explored a range of visual ideas across seven different designs. Several of them used glowing gold elements against a black background, playing with light, depth, and movement around the toothbrush. One version wrapped glowing rings around the full length of the brush, another concentrated the glow around the head, and three explored different ribbon treatments; some interacting with the brush itself, others flowing through the composition. I also created a version using falling confetti to push the celebratory side of the brief.

Alongside those, I intentionally designed a seventh option that went in the opposite direction: a white, minimalist concept built around a simplified Christmas tree made from diagonal lines and circular elements. The idea was to give the team a calmer, more restrained alternative, in case the darker, more dramatic routes felt too heavy for the product.

All of the designs were built in Photoshop, and a big part of the process was careful masking and compositing. The glowing gold elements needed to feel integrated with the toothbrush rather than simply layered on top, so there was a lot of precise cut-outs, blending, and light work to get the interactions feeling believable. Small adjustments to glow intensity, softness, and overlap made a big difference to how premium the final images felt.

One of the concepts – the glowing ring direction – was later developed further by the wider team, combining elements from a few of the explorations. From my side, the project was a good exercise in generating a wide range of distinct but on-brief ideas quickly, while still keeping the product at the centre of the composition.
