PropTech Connect

Smart Spaces presented their Smart Building Showcase at PropTech Connect, and I was tasked with creating the videos for the stand. From scripting and storyboarding through to illustration and animation, I was part of taking the project from concept to final polished video, and produced all of the animations myself.

The goal was to clearly communicate Smart Spaces’ services and capabilities in a way that would engage attendees on screen, while keeping the visuals aligned with their brand. one of the main videos we used on the screens was the Smart Spaces Apple Wallet video, which showcased how the Smart Spaces building app could add your building pass to your phone’s wallet, rather than as a physical card.

As a result, I converted the 16×9 video I originally created into 1×1 and 9×16 versions, to cater for all the screen sizes at the venue. The original video had sound but there was no sound at the PropTech venue, which presented a problem. However, the video also had subtitles, so I modified it so it held on the text screens a little longer to give people time to read it.

I also needed to advertise Smart Spaces’ partners at the venue, as they had financially contributed to the creation of the stand as well as being partners in the building app that Smart Spaces created. We wanted to show off their logos for some brand recognition, and I also animated each of their logos to give them more character.

Each company had it’s own unique style and services, so I tried to animate the logos in a way fitting of that where possible. For example, Kone produce lifts, so the logo animates up and down in the style of a lift. Another example is that Metra offer smart lockers, so I had their M in the logo ‘unlock’ like a key.

Another important section was the entrance to the stand. This had two vertical screens around it and was to be used as more of an exciting screen for interesting graphics rather than just as an informative screen.

I created some playful animations using the Smart Spaces hexagon and included some information about the stand on these screens.

Finally, Proptech themselves were really pleased with how the animation was looking, and asked me to animate their brand logo around the venue for them, as it was going to just be a static image.

Seeing my animations on display at the event was a great experience, and it was satisfying to see the project come together after handling all aspects of production.
